While we are continuing to enhance Victor, its features are currently optimized for metal systems. As you draw your wood system, please know the spacing between posts is calculated as if you were drawing a metal system: a post placed every four feet. However, with wood systems, posts are only necessary every eight feet and use intermediate posts to reduce / eliminate cable deflection. As a result, the Parts List will not be accurate.

Please draw the layout of your project and submit it to our team for review and assistance. You can also refer to our online resources for educational materials. Thank you.

Changing to the post type that you selected result in the system having inadequate tension.

Rise / Run

This estimate is very rough and more info will be needed to finalize.

Victor needs to know what post style, material, and finish you'd like to estimate.

Victor Q & A:

What do the squares and labels on my run mean?

Each square notates a post. The numbers above each post indicate the post order. The letters indicate the type of post that is needed for that run. Tip: Click the “Settings” button in the lower left corner to toggle the labels that appear on your drawing. Turning some of these off can make the drawing look less cluttered.

What is the difference between “Risers Up” and “Risers Down?”

When you draw a staircase in Victor, you will see an arrow in the middle of the staircase pointing up. The arrow always points to the elevated floor attached to the staircase.

Here’s A Useful Key:

When you select “Risers Up”, the post on the stairs with the lowest label number is at the bottom of the stairs.

When you select “Risers Down”. The post on the stairs with the lowest label number is at the top of the stairs.

I clicked on one of the options in the bar at the top and now I can’t keep drawing my run. What do I do now?

Click the tab that you had selected to go back to the drawing board.

Example: If you clicked “Create Arrow” to draw an arrow, click “Create Arrow” again to re-enter the main drawing page.

What does “End Run” mean?

Ending your run allows you to draw a new run that is not attached to your previous one.

What if I don’t know my exact run length or handrail height?

Estimate your run length as best as you can. We can provide you with a general quote without perfect measurements, but we will need the precise measurements before we can provide you an exact price. Changing the measurements even slightly can affect how many posts your run requires. So make sure you get your measurements to your representative before you order!

How do I edit my run length?

Click the “Edit Run Length” tab on the left-hand side of the tab bar. Select which run (numbered according to which you drew first) you want to edit. Then simply type in the actual run length and click “update”

NOTE: It is helpful to turn on the “Run Labels” toggle when you are attempting to edit your run lengths. This can be done by clicking on the “Settings” button in the lower left corner and clicking the red toggle button beside “Run Labels.” Now you will see your run numbers on the drawing and can easily edit the length of the runs.

NOTE 2: At this moment, Victor cannot edit the run lengths of angled runs. We are working to remedy this. Thank you for understanding.

I created a note, but it’s not in the right place. Can I move it?

Yes! Simply click “Edit Notes” on the tab bar. Then, click and drag any note to move it wherever you want.

What are the shapes for?

You can use the shapes tool to show us where an existing structure is. Use the “Add Note” tab to let us know what your shape indicates. People often use shapes to show us where their house, pool, or existing wood post is. The more detailed information you give us in your drawing, the better we’ll be able to serve you.

I clicked the “Shapes” tab and nothing happened. What do I do?

After you’ve selected the “Shapes” tab, click the “New Shape” square that appears in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. Then, you can select what type of shape you want along with the color and size. Once it appears on the screen, simply drag it to a different location, click and drag the corners to manipulate the size, or click the highest box above the shape to rotate it.

The post labels are blocking the view of my drawing. Can I move them?

Yes! Click the “Edit Labels” tab on the left-hand side of the bar to be able to click and drag your run labels.

My drawing is looking a little bit cluttered. Can I remove some of the information?

Of course! Simply click the “Settings” button in the lower left corner and choose which labels you would like to be on your drawing and which you would rather do without.

Thank you for using Victor by Viewrail. We truly hope you have an enjoyable design experience. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team at victor@stairsupplies.com; we will be happy to assist you in creating your vision and maximizing your view.
